The factory in Vitoria-Gasteiz was built in 1968 and following payment of the corresponding royalties, production of grinding wheels began and the whole of the technological Know How was purchased.
During 1981 the trademark and the company name became one and the same with the start of a plan to boost technological improvements. Quality and customer service were the main strategic strengths that enabled us to win over new markets through integrated specialisation in rubber bond products.

In
1963 Abrasivos Manhattan S.A. (known as Schmeder Mougan)
was set up as a company to commercialise grinding products manufactured
by the American firm Raybestos Manhattan Inc.
This
purchase was complemented by taking over the European sales network,
by which Abrasivos Manhattan gained a powerful structure and was
introduced into different markets.
Around
that time Manhattan Gmbh started doing business with the
exclusive aim of introducing and later consolidating the presence
of our products in the ever-demanding German market.
In
1987 the "Manhattan Group" was born with the take-over of
Abrasivos Unesa, S.L., located in Hernani (Guipśzcoa) and
specialised in manufacturing vitrified and resinoid grinding wheels.
Our aim was to offer our customers a more integrated service by
widening the range of our products.
The
90s has seen further development and consolidation of the "Manhattan
Group" with the creation of Manhattan Grinding Wheels, S.L.
dedicated to commercialising other grinding products, the construction
of a new manufacturing plant in Antas (Almerķa), aimed at
making each member of he Group a specialist in a clearly defined
product segment and the setting up of a commercial division in the
USA, under the name of Manhattan Abrasives, U.S.A.
